It’s Alive!
By Jill Christine | June 25, 2009

So I was working late in the Mint Conspiracy
lab the other night, and this terrific thunderstorm
rolled in. Lots of lightning.
My experiment was a success.

Gone Postal; Be Back Later
By Jill Christine | June 4, 2009
One more story link — my flash fiction piece “Postal” is featured on Flashes in the Dark today. “Postal” is satirical horror in which a little supernatural karma comes calling for an unscrupulous post office employee.
Although this story was loosely inspired by all the time I spend at the post office (some things are unavoidable when you’re running an online retail business), I actually adore most of my local PO employees. They know what they’re doing and they do their best, even when they’re dealing with really awful customers. I’ve heard my share of true postal horror stories from other online sellers, though (and yeah, I’ve experienced a doozy or two or my own), and “Postal” was born from those.

A Zombie for the LOLs
By Jill Christine | June 3, 2009
My horror/humor short story, “Fresh”, is in the new online issue of Blood Blade & Thruster. Because BBT publishes a mix of satirical and traditional horror, sci-fi, and fantasy, I knew it would be a good match for Franklin, a fussy vegan zombie who struggles to make a living as an extra in horror movies. There’s a little zombie-type gore involved, but it’s pretty light and mostly for the LOLs.
Franklin’s near and dear to my heart, so I’m thrilled to see him find a home. I wrote his story way back in early 2007, then shopped him around a little and soon realized he was too funny/satirical for traditional horror mags and too gory for humor publications. I needed a mag that straddled the two genres, and BBT was it.
The front page of the current issue is here; you can read more about BBT here.
(And did I squeal when I realized I have my very own BBT author page? Yeah, just a little.)

Summer Vacation
By Jill Christine | June 1, 2009
And that’s that! Mint Conspiracy is closed for the summer. It’ll be back in mid/late August. I’ll still be around in the meantime — if I don’t have anything to say here, you might be able to find me over on Twitter. Feel free to follow; I plan on posting updates on my various projects, as well as sneak previews of this year’s Halloween designs.
I’ve also heard from a few more e-zines recently, and it looks like I’ll have another story link or two to share this week.
Finally, I was so glad to see Long Legs O’Loughlin find a new home last week. He was always a favorite of mine, and I knew the right owner for him was out there. I’m sure he’s very happy in his new digs, even if he wasn’t so happy to travel there. I’ve never seen a more sour expression on a monster who’s being packed and shipped:

Lighten up, Long Legs. Jeez.

Feeling Dizzy?
By Jill Christine | May 18, 2009
Everyday Weirdness, a horror/sci-fi/fantasy e-zine, recently purchased a story of mine. You can read “Dizzy” here. A new publishing credit is a great way to start a Monday morning.
Also, thanks for the support I’ve received on the dental phobia issue. Things have gone very smoothly for the most part. The worst of the work is done; while I still have the expense of fixing my bite and TMJ problems ahead of me, I’m no longer thrown into a panic attack by the thought of walking into a dentist’s office. That’s a huge thing for me, and I appreciate the encouragement and kind words I’ve received from you folks out there in Internet-land. ;)
Finally, I should announce that I’ll be putting Mint Conspiracy on summer hiatus starting June 1. I’ve got some other projects demanding my full attention (and some Fabulous Max news I’ll be sharing ASAP). I’ll reopen the shop sometime in mid-August, just in time to launch this year’s Halloween designs.
